Take Action

Help in lobbying the Portland school board

The Portland Public Schools board of directors is responsible for setting policy in the Portland school district related to military recruiters' access to students in Portland schools.  As such, many of our efforts are directed at influencing their policy decisions to limit recruiter access to students and to ensure that portayals of military life given to students are accurate and appropriate.   Please contact us if you are interested in helping with these lobbying efforts.

Help with student outreach in local high schools

We conduct a variety of outreach efforts to local students to help educate them about the realities of the military and to provide alternatives to military enlistment.  Below are some of the activities that you can get involved in to help with these outreach efforts.  To get involved please contact us.

Attend a war tax resistance workshop

We hold occasional workshops on war tax resistance.  Our workshop schedule and location are currently being reviewed, however.  We will post new dates and locations soon.  Please email us at wrl.pdx@gmail.com if you have questions or need assistance with a pressing issue related to war tax resistance.  Thank you for your patience.  See our events page for dates and more information in the near future..

Help us plan community education and protest events.

We are always in need of volunteers to help plan protest and education events as well as just to attend these events.  To get involved please contact us.

Write letters to newspapers and government officials

Write letters to local and state newspapers and contact government officials to share your views on current military spending priorities.  You can find the address for your congressional representatives here.    For some inspiration and talking point ideas for your letter, you can visit the American Friends Service Committee.  See below for addresses and contact information for some local Portland area newspapers.
